Leo High School’s Annual Veteran’s Day Observance 2024, will be held on Wednesday November 7, at 11:00 AM

The Description of the dIn addition to recognizing our alumni veterans and Leo’s long history of military service at the Vets Ceremony on Nov. 7, we’ll be presenting a Leo diploma to Army Sgt. Frederic Arana.

Sgt. Arana would have graduated with the Class of ’65, but he dropped out to join the military and volunteered for Vietnam. He saw a lot of action over there and came home with some issues, but he pulled himself together and enjoyed a long, productive career as an educator and father of three.

I’ve been in touch with his son, who says his dad’s failure to  graduate from Leo is one of his few disappointments in life, so we’re going to rectify that, much like we did for Jim Wilkins back in 2015. Jim would have graduated with the Class of ’44, but he dropped out and joined the Navy to fight in World War II. We all know what a delightful addition to the Leo Family Jim has been.

We’ve also got a Marine Corps color guard coming. Still on the lookout for a bugler to play Taps when we lay the wreath but we can always go with a good recording.

If the weather’s bad we’ll move it inside, but otherwise we’ll utilize the courtyard, where the Vets Memorial is located.

Feel free to share, and let me know if you have any questions.
