Anthony F. LaPorta – Class of 1959 – Rest in Peace.

The Alumni Association was recently notified of the passing of  Anthony F. LaPorta on May 21, 2023.  Anthony came to Leo High School from St. Leo  grammar school. While at Leo, Anthony participated in the swimming team, the football team, the cross country team as well as the Sodality Club.  While he was still a student a Leo, Anthony expressed an interest in medicine.

After attending Leo, Anthony went on to Loyola University in Chicago where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree.  Anthony then went on to study medicine at the University of Bologna (Italy).  He subsequently received his Doctor of Medicine from the Chicago Medical School.  He was granted the Upjohn Company Achievement Award, given to the intern of the year, for excellence in medicine after which he went on to practice family and internal medicine in the Chicago area. While still practicing medicine full time, Anthony went back and obtained a Masters in Public Health at the University of Illinois.

Anthony was a voracious reader, fluent in Italian, as well as a lover of languages and cultures. He could be described as a Philomath for his diverse passions and mastery of so many things. His interests included chess, classical and operatic music, Pink Floyd, Janis Joplin and jogging.  For more information on Anthony’s life his obituary can be viewed here

Tony is survived by his wife of 61 years, Diane, his brother Louis, his three children, Anthony , Lisa and Frank. and his four grandchildren who he loved dearly.

The entire membership of the Alumni Association offers its prayers and condolences to Anthony’s family, and to his close friends and associates at this time.
