John J. O’leary, Class of 1961, Rest In Peace

The Leo Alumni Association was recently notified of the death of John J. O’Leary of the Class of 1961, by his close relatives. John was a graduate of St. Leo Grammar School. He was the child of immigrants from Ireland and John’s attending Leo High School meant a lot to John and huis relatives. He was an active student, participating in the Cross Country and Track Teams in his Sophomore through Senior years and the Bowling Team and Skating Committee in his Junior and Senior years respectively.

John attended Iona College where he earned a Bachelor’s degree. After college he went on to teach high school English at Bowen High School in Chicago. In addition to teaching at Bowen, John coached the chess, and soccer clubs. John continued his educational pursuits, ultimately obtaining two Master’s Degrees from Chicago State University. Outside of teaching and coaching, John was an active member of his Catholic parish, which included participating in the parish’s men’s club. John served as an election judge for many years in St. Charles.

John is survived by his spouse, Joan; his three sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews. For more information on John’s life his obituary can be viewed by clicking here.
