Joseph B. Sabia, August 4, 1955 to March 7, 2025, Class of 1973, Rest In Peace

The Leo Alumni Association was recently notified of the death of Joseph B. Sabia by several of Joe’s classmates. Joe died unexpectedly on March 7, 2025. Joe came to Leo from St. Margaret of Scotland grammar school. When at Leo, Joe participated in the band, playing the trumpet for all 4 years, and in several other activities, including swimming, cross country and track. He excelled at each of these activities.

During High school, Joe worked at his father’s business, Sabia’s Tuxedos, where he learned tailoring, sales, and other valuable aspects of operating a small business. Sabia’s Tuxedos was the official tuxedo provider for Leo’s proms and graduations during Joe’s time at Leo. .Joe subsequently made his living, for the most part, as a salesman, selling men’s clothing and a variety of other items.

After graduating from Leo, Joe spent nearly two years in training for the Christian Brothers at Lewis University in Lockport, Illinois. Joe ultimately decided he preferred the layman’s life and withdrew. Joe was friendly, outgoing and committed to Leo. He was a regular at Alumni events and volunteered for a variety of banquet and golf-outing duties.

Joe is survived by his three sons, Michael, Jeffery and Joseph along with is two former wives, Nancy and Lisa, with whom he remained friends. Joe is also survived by two brothers, Carmen (Leo ’72) and Chris, and one sister Roxann, who survive from among his six siblings. A memorial service is planned for early May.

The entire membership of the Alumni Association offers its prayers and condolences to Joe’s family, and to his close friends and associates at this time.
