The Alumni Association was recently notified of the passing of , Joseph F. “Joe” Phelan, at the age of 84.
A resident of Naperville, Illinois, and proud Leo Grad, Joe loved playing pickup basketball. His talents led him to receiving a full scholarship to Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL. Joe was inducted into the Spring Hill College Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.
Aside from his athletic talents, Joe also received a law degree from John Marshall Law School in Chicago. He spent more than thirty years in private practice.
Joes accomplishments did not stop there. He was also served on the Naperville City Council from 1981-1985 and on the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners from 1989-1997. Joe was also a longtime member of St. Raphael Catholic Church.
He is survived by his loving wife Sandra L. “Sandy” Phelan, three children, and eight grand children
