In these challenging times when we see too many young people dropping out of school and economic hardship driving violence in our communities, there is a refreshing and inspiring story being written at the corner of 79th and Sangamon on the city’s South Side.
Every day, Leo Catholic High School makes a positive impact on its student body through a rigorous, values-based curriculum, offered in a safe and nurturing learning environment. With the unified commitment of administrators, teachers, parents and students, Leo is changing lives and improving futures. We hope you will join us in support of this extraordinary institution.
On Wednesday, December 3, Leo will host its 10th annual Scholarship Benefit at the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago. Each year the event honors an outstanding Leo alum, and the tradition continues: Terrence A. Duffy, Class of 1976, will be recognized with this year’s Andy McKenna Leo Lions Legacy Award. Terry, Chairman and CEO of the CME Group, is a most deserving recipient. He is a respected business leader and a strong advocate for educating our young people and giving them the best opportunity for future success. We look forward to the opportunity to salute him.
This is an exciting time for Leo. We are sure many of you followed the world-renowned Leo Choir’s amazing journey to the final round of America’s Got Talent. What was evident, besides their musical talent, was their determination and dedication to purpose. These young men are great examples of the Leo experience, but they are not alone. This year Leo welcomed 91 freshmen and a total enrollment of 250 students, both figures its highest in 30 years. The students continue to be Leo’s best ambassadors. Over the past 13 years Leo has graduated 100 percent of its seniors, with 94 percent going on to college at some of the top-tier schools in the Midwest. Leo also understands that college is not for everyone, so it offers additional programs to prepare students for whatever path is best for them: college, the work force or the military.
Leo’s Scholarship Fund is essential to the school’s success. Leo does not believe in turning students away purely for financial reasons, and the Scholarship Fund makes tuition assistance available to all young men who qualify. With all proceeds from the Scholarship Benefit going to the Scholarship Fund, Leo will have the resources it needs to fund tuition assistance for its growing student population.
We hope you will continue to stand with these young students by renewing your leadership gift here or by completing this response form. Your support is a great investment in our leaders of tomorrow.
Thank you.
