Leo High School sends thanks to local parade

Mar 21, 2017

The men of Leo High School would like to thank the organizers of the South Side Irish Parade for including Leo High School as a 2017 parade participant as part of the school’s 90-year anniversary celebration as a South Side institution.

We are equally grateful to the spectators who lined the parade route along Western Avenue and went out of their way to make the Leo contingent feel welcome.

If we heard it once, we heard, “My dad went to Leo!” 200 times. From Barney Janecki, Class of 1946, to Jalen Robinson, Class of 2018, the Leo men truly enjoyed the experience.

Those of us who grew up on the South Side and live or work there know better, but the area is often depicted as a cross between a war zone and a KKK stronghold.

Nothing could have been further from the truth on Sunday, March 12.

We at Leo are proud of our South Side heritage and grateful for the opportunity to help disprove a stereotype.

It was a great day for Leo.
