Leo Lions’ Homecoming football game change

Noble Academy has replaced De La Salle as the opponent for the Leo Lions’ Homecoming football game on Saturday, Oct. 5. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. at St. Rita’s Cronin Field, 78th and Western.

Numbers have been a problem recently for De La Salle – the Meteors fielded only one team last season, and began this season with barely enough players for one. When injuries further thinned the roster during an 0-4 start, school officials cited safety reasons in canceling the remainder of the season.

Noble Academy, a member of the Noble Street Charter network, was also in need of a game for the Oct. 5  weekend, so a deal was struck. The Griffins are 0-4 going into this weekend’s game against Pritzker, with losses to St. Laurence, Marmion, Speer Academy and CA-KP Co-Op.

 Players from Leo’s ‘54, ‘64. ‘74, ‘84, ‘94, 2004 and 2014 teams will be recognized at halftime.

The Lions (0-4) travel to unbeaten St. Laurence (4-0) this Friday. The frosh-soph game is at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity at 7:30.
