Salvatore A. Spalla, Class of 1960

The Leo Alumni Association was recently notified of the death of Salvatore A. Spalla by his relatives and classmates. Sal died after a long illness. Salvatore (know as “Sal” by his friends) came to Leo High from St. Leo Grammar School. Salvatore’s parents owned a grocery store located at 83rd and Halsted where he worked during much of his time at Leo. Sal was, however, able to participate on the football team in his senior year. After High School Sal held various jobs, including working as a route driver for “Butternut Bread” before settling in for a life as an over the road truck driver, mostly in the mid-west.

Sal was a very religious man. He was active in the Knights of Columbus Chicago Ridge Counsel and Our Lady of the Ridge Parish. He was also a classic car enthusiast who continued to enjoy his 1955 Ford until his death. Sal was a proud Leo Man, whose younger brother Anthony graduated from the Class of 1962. He remained involved with his Leo High School Classmates up until his death. Salvatore’s is survived by his three daughters, Sarah, Kathy and Debbie. Funeral and Visitation will be held tomorrow at Our Lady of Ridge Church in Oak Lawn. Further details are available in Sal’s obituary which is available through this link.

The entire membership of the Alumni Association offers its prayers and condolences to Salvatore’s family, and to his close friends and associates at this time.
