The Leo Alumni Association was recently notified of the death of Leroy R. Hansen of the Class of 1954 by several of his family members. Leroy died peacefully on April 24th. Leroy was a proud and enthusiastic Leo Alumni. While at Leo, Leroy participated on both the Bantams and Intramural Basketball teams. He also participated in the Society for the Propagation of the Faith and was on the Honor Roll.
Leroy came to Leo from St. Sabina Elementary School and graduated from Leo in 1954. Leroy was a great believer in education and, after Leo, he earned his undergrad degree at Chicago Teachers College and his master’s degree from Roosevelt University. He subsequently served as a principal at Woodson North Elementary School and went on to earn earn a law degree from the IIT-Kent College of Law in Chicago.
Leroy’s surprisingly varied and long career included working as a teacher, a principal, as Director of Employee Benefits for Chicago Public Schools (for over 30 years), as the Village Clerk for the Village of Willowbrook, as an attorney in private practice, and in providing legal counseling to an impressive array of government entities until he was well into his 80’s.
Leroy died peacefully and is survived by his very large family (detailed in this link to his obituary). Leroy’s memorial visitation will be held on My 24th at Christ the King Church on South Hamilton Avenue in Chicago.
